Premier League Gameweek 1
Matchday 2 - Saturday

18 goals were scored on Saturday.

It was a Matchday for debutantes as Hegazi, Mounie, Morata, Rooney and Salah all scored for their new clubs.

Let's get on with the results then shall we

Chelsea (2-3) Burnley

Scorers
Vokes 24'
Ward 39'
Vokes 43'
Morata 69'
David Luiz 88'

Red Cards
Cahill 14'
Fabregas 81'

No one saw this coming, Burnley have stunned Chelsea at the Bridge coming off with a 2-3 result as the Champions ended with 9 men.

The game turned entirely in the 14th minute, where Chelsea captain Gary Cahill was sent off after receiving a straight red card.

With a man advantage, Sam Vokes struck a volley to hand Burnley the lead in the 24th minute.

Stephen Ward doubled Burnely’s lead in the 39th minute after neat play with Jack Cork.

Before the 1st half could end, Burnley had a stunning 3 goal lead as Vokes once again striking a header to score his brace.

In the second half, Chelsea brought on their new signing Alvaro Morata and he responded by sticking a low range header in the 69th minute.

Although, it was to no avail as Cesc Fabregas received a second yellow card and Chelsea were reduced to 9 men.

David Luiz scored a late goal but it only proved to be a consolation.

It was a disappointing start to Chelsea’s title defense and they will have to first put this result behind them and then concentrate on their next game.

For Burnley, it is a stunning result and an important 3 points. They sold their main striker this week and now the 3 points from this result will prove to be very important in their possible relegation battle.

Crystal Palace (0-3) Huddersfield Town

Scorers
Joel Ward (OG) 23'
Mounie 26' 78'

Newcomers Huddersfield Town made a dream start to their Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace; 3 points, 3 goals, a clean sheet and the most surprising one, they are top of the table!

In the 23rd minute, Huddersfield got the lead as Joel Ward got the final touch via a cross scoring an unfortunate own goal.

New signing Steve Mounie had a dream debut for his new club in the PL scoring a brace to give the fans a memorable win.

Crystal Palace was disastrous on the day and they were right to end up with the result. They have to improve their defensive ability soon or they may not find themselves in the PL next season.

For Huddersfield, their main aim was Premier League survival and these 3 points will be vital for it. It was their first win in the top tier in 45 long years and will also have the memory of being top of the league maybe even for the entire first week.

Watford (3-3) Liverpool

Scorers
Okaka 8'
Mane 29'
Doucoure 32'
Firmino 55'
Salah 57'
Britos 90+3'

A 6 goal thriller at Vicarage Road saw Watford and Liverpool share the points as both teams had a good attack with an equally poor defensive display.

Stefano Okaka gave Watford an 8th minute lead via a corner.

The returning Sadio Mane leveled the game in the 29th minute with a neat combo play with Can.

That just lasted for 3 minutes as Abdoulaye Doucoure handed Watford the lead after Liverpool had problems in clearing the ball.

Into the second half, Mohamed Salah was fouled in the box and Roberto Firmino converted the resulting penalty.

Firmino turned provider and Salah turned goal scorer as Liverpool were handed the lead for the first time in the game.

Although, in second half stoppage time, Miguel Britos scored an equalizer as Liverpool were denied their first win of the season.

Brighton (0-2) Man City

Scorers
Aguero 70'
Dunk (OG) 75'

Premier League title favorites Man City won their opening fixture against a bullish Brighton side.

For 70 minutes, Brighton looked stable in every position. Neither did they hand City a goal, neither did they score one. They were looking to win their first point of the season…until came a defensive error.

Dale Stephens lost the ball in his own and a Man City counter attack saw David Silva play a beautiful first time pass to Sergio Aguero to finally give City the breakthrough.

Within 5 minutes, a lack of concentration in defense handed City a 2 goal lead via an unfortunate Lewis Dunk own goal.

Brighton had nothing to be ashamed off; they put in a decent performance in their first PL fixture especially against a team like Man City. Come next week, they may get their first points of the season.

Man City may not have made their flying start to the season just yet, but they eventually got 3 points which is most important.

Everton (1-0) Stoke City

Scorers
Rooney 45+1'

Everton welcomed Wayne Rooney after 13 long years and he scored on his return which proved to be the winner and hand Everton their first 3 points of the season against Stoke City.

It was a brilliant free header that Wayne scored in first half stoppage time which was his 199th Premier League goal. Everton now need to concentrate on their tough run ahead.

Stoke City also have a tough schedule ahead and need to get their first points of the season soon.

West Bron (1-0) Bournemouth

Scorers
Hegazi 31'

West Brom kick started their PL campaign with a 1-0 victory against an AFC Bournemouth side as the West Brom defense was firm to earn their clean sheet.

The goal was scored by debutant Ahmed Hegazi via a header by a wide free kick.

Both teams need to now concentrate on their next game in the PL and earn 3 points in their next fixture.

Southampton (0-0) Swansea City

Southampton and Swansea played out a frustrating goalless draw as no team could open up the other.

It was a decent result for Swansea who can value this point as their have opened their PL account for the season. Southampton had a fine pre season but couldn’t find the breakthrough. Come next week, both teams will look for their first win of the campaign.
