A thrilling opener to the Premier League as Arsenal win 4-3 against Leicester City

The Premier League is back and back with a bang!

Gameweek 1 - Matchday 1 - Friday

What a way to kick off the 2017/18 campaign with a 7 goal thriller as Arsenal overcame Leicester City.

Super Sub Olivier Giroud scored the odd goal to give Arsenal a thrilling victory and 3 vital points.

Let’s get to it then;

Result: Arsenal (4-3) Leicester City

Scorers:

Lacazette 2'
Okazaki 5'
Vardy 29'
Welbeck 45+2'
Vardy 56'
Ramsey 83'
Giroud 85'

2nd minute, an Alexandre Lacazette header gives Arsenal the lead. It was the best way to begin the game, a debut goal with a powerful centre forward’s header.

Their lead didn’t last for long as errors in defense allowed Leicester to capitalize and Shinji Okazaki scored via a free header in the box.

In no time, a fierce counter attack saw Jamie Vardy at the end of the perfect cross to score and give the Leicester the lead. The Emirates was stunned.

But just before half time approached, Arsenal was back level with Danny Welbeck getting a simple tap after defensive errors by Leicester.

Come the second half, Arsenal were trailing once again as a horrible defensive display saw Jamie Vardy find himself with a free header and score his second goal of the game.

For Arsenal, it was all about their substitutes from here on. They brought on Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud. From a corner, Ramsey cleverly turned the ball in to bring Arsenal level on 3-3.

Within 2 minutes, a towering header from Olivier Giroud handed Arsenal the goal and the eventual win.

Both teams may have learnt a lot from their performance. Neither of them are defensively stable and need to improve come next week. Congratulations to Arsenal for edging the game and Leicester need to take this result positively and improve on their defense.
