The first El Clasico of the 2017/18 season concluded with a stunning result for Real Madrid as they overcame Barcelona at the Camp Nou. They now have 2 goal advantage going into the 2nd leg of the La Liga Super Cup.
Formations
Real Madrid played a 4-3-1-2 with Bale and Isco as their main creative threat which proved very effective throughout the match.
Barcelona thoroughly missed the absence of the now departed Neymar and Deulofeu couldn't do the similar job on the left.
Real were handed in the lead in the 2nd half when a Marcelo cross from the left saw Barcelona defender Gerard Pique inadvertently turned the ball inside his own net in spectacular fashion.
Come the 75th minute, Luis Suarez found himself free in the box with the ball but a charging Keylor Navas was thought to bring him down and the referee handed Barcelona a penalty.
The penalty was later converted by the magician Lionel Messi which once again brought the game to deadlock.
Cristiano Ronaldo came on in the 58th minute and responded by winning a one V one take on against Vidal to score a stunning solo effort.
He was then booked for taking off his shirt during the celebrations as he handed the lead and advantage once again in Real's favor.
Then came the talking point, Ronaldo was accused of a dive in the referee's view for which he received a 2nd yellow and was sent off. The replays showed differently but the decision stood. However Ronaldo's impact was deadly; Real still led but Barcelona had the man advantage.
With Barcelona pushing more men forward, they were left short of defenders and a 10 man Real counter attack saw the ball reach Marco Asensio. He was squeezed into a tight angle on the left but managed to find a net with the best strike of the night.
Going into the 2nd leg, Real have the advantage of 2 goals. Although Ronaldo will miss the the game but the will have Modric back into their side. Their only objective is not to lose the game and they win the Spanish Super Cup.
