Trophee Des Champions 2017 Review
Result: AS Monaco (1-2) PSG
Goal scores
AS Monaco: (Sidibe 30’)
PSG: (Dani Alves 51’) (Rabiot 63’)
The prediction done before the game came true, PSG
edged Monaco with a 1-2 victory to lift their record 7th French
Super Cup. Both teams put in an equal performance, and either were deserving to lift the cup. In the end, PSG scored the odd goal which was the decisive goal in the match.
Monaco surprisingly started Right back Djibril
Sidibe as the Right Winger and played Centre back Toure as the Right back which defensively wasn't wise. New signings Youri Tielemans and Terence Kongolo were also handed starts. However, the star names; Mbappe, Lemar & Falcao did not perform when it really mattered which was a big disappointment.
PSG started a much stronger starting XI. Former Monaco player Kurzawa began as the left back.
Another good decision was to play Thiago Motta providing defensive solidarity
to the side. New signing Dani Alves surprisingly began as the Right Winger alongside Javier Pastore, another surprising candidate on the Left wing.
Goals:
Monaco’s attacking players weren’t performing in
the game; enter Djibril Sidibe, the Right Winger for the night. He was closed
down by the PSG goalkeeper, so he decided to chip the ball over his head; dead
on accurate and perfect to hand Monaco the advantage. They had to just avoid
conceding but couldn’t.
In the 51st minute, PSG were handed a
free kick, perfect for a powerful in swinging right footed shot but the shot
looked at a difficult angle. But, they had perhaps the perfect candidate at
that moment present on the pitch, Dani Alves. He announced himself in a sublime
manner by bringing PSG right back in the game.
The decisive winner came in the 63rd
minute. Once again, it was poor man marking in the box. PSG launched a counter
attack and the ball reached Dani Alves. He put in a pivotal cross inside and
Rabiot got a free header to head home the victory and the French Super Cup to
PSG.
This game may have signs of encouragement for
both sides. Monaco may need to figure out where they need to improve and PSG
would want to continue showing consistency in their winning run.
