Tottenham Hotspur have announced an unexpected surprise name to their first team squad, a player no one the club would have expected to sign.

They have announced the signing of Argentine keeper Paulo Gazzaniga from Southampton FC for an undisclosed fee. The player comes as a replacement for Pau Lopez who left the club after his season long-loan ended.

Gazzaniga broke into the Southampton first team in 2012 when Southampton made their debut in the Premier League. Since then, he made 21 PL appearances but wan unable to feature for the first team in the past 2 seasons.

He spent the entire of last season on loan at Spanish side Rayo Vallecano in the second tier of La Liga as their first choice keeper. He made 32 appearances, managing to keep 11 clean sheets.

The deal was an unexpected one but Tottenham were missing a 3rd choice keeper and Gazzaniga's arrival brings youth and experience and can step in for the team whenever needed. All the best to him.
