Barcelona may have announced the most bizarre transfer of this window. After the departure of Neymar, they have signed Brazilian midfielder Paulinho from GZ Evergrande. He is expected to play in the creative No.10 role in Barca's 3 man midfield.
Chinese League clubs were known for making big money signings and overpaying for players but this time it has reversed. Paulinho's arrival for €40 Million is the most expensive transfer for a player moving from China to Europe.
Paulinho may have done something special to attract Barcelona's interest and will bring a different impact to their side. He is their 3rd summer signing after the arrivals of Nelson Semedo and Gerard Deulofeu.
Paulinho previously played for Premier League side Tottenham which ended as a nightmare and he decided to move to the Chinese Super League.
With Evergrande, he started reviving his career by making 95 appearances, scoring 28 goals and assisting 8 times. These performances once again earned him an international call up for Brazil and started attracting the interest of European clubs.
However, Paulinho would find it difficult to break into Barcelona's 3 man midfield of Busquets, Iniesta & Rakitic. With Iniesta currently 33, he is unable to start every game along with rumors regarding Rakitic's departure this month which increases Paulinho's chances.
Barcelona may have overpaid for a player who is a central midfielder and currently 29. With the heavy price tag, playing in Europe and the Champions League, Paulinho will have to prove that he is worth every penny.
