Report
Manchester City have continued
their summer spending spree by signing England international Kyle Walker. The
deal was announced on 14th July 2017 with City paying £50 Million,
making Walker the most expensive defender in the world.
City had a rumored interest in
Walker as early as April and the player himself had handed in a transfer
request. Relationship between Walker and Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino gradually started breaking down as Walker did not feature in the final 2 PL
games.
Since the past 3 years, City has
struggled in the Right back position because of their aging squad. But now,
having got rid of their Right backs, they have now chosen the modernized
fullback Kyle Walker.
Tottenham Career Statistics

- He made 229 first team appearances and has scored 4 times
- Also registered a stunning 21 assists
- Has made 198 Premier League appearances.
- Has European experience featuring in both, the Champions League & the Europa League
- Will further strength City’s European ambitions this season
- Has made 28 appearances in Europe
- Was a member of the Premier League Team of the Season last year
Walker on the offensive end
Kyle Walker could perhaps be the
best modern offensive fullback in the world and the fastest right back in the
Premier League. His burst of pace to directly attack the right wing is amazing.
In a back four, he is the dream player that any Right winger would want to
have. He is also known for his pin point crossing along with deadly direct free
kick ability.
Walker on the defensive end
Walker is without a doubt, the best
defensive full back in the Premier League. His one attribute is the fact that
he loves chasing back and can draw the attacker out of position. He can quickly
sprint back to provide defensive cover. In a one V one situation, with no centre
back present, he is the player anyone would want to have for providing
defensive cover at that moment.
City’s new look defense & formation
Walker can feature either as City’s
Right back or Wing back, irrespective of City’s formation. He was an ever
present player on the right of Spurs’ 3-4-3 system last season and he also has
experience playing as a fullback for the National team. City may twist and
change their formation at times this season, but that wouldn’t be much of a
problem for him.
Walker would want to add a first
major trophy with his new club this season. The club has made an expensive yet
a fantastic fullback signing. Pep Guardiola will rotate him well between PL and
CL fixtures. He will also ensure that Walker has stiff competition with a
reported move for Real Madrid fullback Danilo on the cards. Walker’s arrival
has made City’s defense much stronger and even stronger contenders for the
Premier League..
Wishing him all the best with Manchester City!!!
