Report

Liverpool has swooped for a talented youngster at a position they’ve struggled for over 10 years; left fullback. They have signed Andrew Robertson from now relegated Hull City for a fee of just £8 Million. Robertson’s arrival could make him the best left back signing since ex-Liverpool player John Arne Riise back in 2001.

As a Dundee Untied player, Robertson was an unknown talent when he was first scouted by Hull City. They snapped him up for a mere £3 Million and he shone for them ever since.

Now, at the age of 23 and in his 3rd full Premier League season, Robertson has become one of the rising stars and is on course to become the greatest left back in the Premier League.

Hull City career statistics
  • Played for 3 whole seasons with Hull City ✔
  • Made a stunning 153 appearances ✔
  • Has featured for 2 seasons in the Premier League making 57 appearances
  • Played one season in the Championship where he made 42 appearances
  • Regained promotion with Hull City
  • He has scored 5 goals and registered 10 assists for the Tigers
  • First choice left back for the Scotland national team ✔
  • He has won 15 international caps and found the net once ✔

Robertson’s abilities

Robertson may not be one of the quickest players but he is a very skilled left back in the Premier League. He has amazing technique to his game complementing an accurate long range passing ability. Robertson could perhaps be one of Liverpool’s surprise free kick takers this season due to his strong left foot. His crossing ability may be utilized on set plays especially on corners. Within 2 years, he may become the complete fullback Liverpool needed all along.

Robertson: Hit or Miss

Let’s be honest, last season Liverpool had no player who could have been called a natural left back. James Milner did a fantastic job at this position last season and basically was Liverpool’s savior getting them out of tight situations. Although, it would be better off if he continued as a central midfielder this season. Second choice Alberto Moreno may not be in contention for the first choice this season. So, if Robertson can step up his game this season, he can be a key player for Liverpool this season.

In this overvalued market, getting Robertson for just £8 Million, Liverpool have pulled off an absolute steal! The manager Jurgen Klopp has made one of his best defensive signing for Liverpool. Choosing youth over experience, he shows that he trusts Robertson’s abilities to guide the team this season.

Wishing him all the best for his career with Liverpool!!! 😀👌✌️
