Report

West Ham want to be among the top clubs in England, hence they are announcing big name signings. They now have signed 3 players formerly from Manchester; Hart, Zabaleta and their latest arrival Javier ‘Chicharito; Hernandez, the former Premier League winner.

Hernandez was a popular fan favorite during his time with Man Utd. Now Chicharito comes to solve the centre forward crisis West Ham have been having since gaining promotion to the Premier League.

Career Statistics

Chicha has played for 3 major European clubs in his career; Manchester United, Real Madrid and Bayer Leverkusen.

Manchester United:

Scouted by legendary Ex-Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, Hernandez signed from Mexican team Guadalajara in 2010. With 4 seasons at Man Utd, he was an ever present attacker and helped the team to numerous successes.
  • He made an impressive 158 appearances ✔
  • Scored an impressive 59 goals
  • Registered 20 assists 20
  • Scored on his debut against Chelsea in the Community Shield
  • Helped the club win the Premier League twice
  • Reached the Champions League final in 2011

Real Madrid:

In 2014, following the arrival of Louis Van Gaal, he didn’t seem to be included in his plans for the season. Real Madrid took him on a season long loan which was bad decision as Man Utd was already short of strikers.
  • Made 33 appearances for Madrid ✔
  • Scored just 9 goals ✔
  • Scored one important strike against rivals Atletico in the Champions League quarter-finals which ensured progress to the semi-finals ✔
  • The club decided against making the deal permanent ✔

Bayer Leverkusen:

Van Gaal once again saw no signs of improvement and foolishly sold him off to Bayer Leverkusen for just £10 Million.

  • As Leverkusen’s main target man, he made 40 appearances ✔
  • Scored a stunning 26 goals in his debut season ✔
  • Man Utd’s top goal scorer that season was Anthony Martial with 18 goals ✔
  • Man Utd were definitely the losers in that deal ✔
  • For 2 seasons, Chicharito has made a total of 76 appearances, scoring 39 times ✔

Hernandez’ most impressive contributions have come for the Mexico National Team. He has won 96 international caps and is Mexico’s top goal scorer in history with 48 strikes.

Chicha’s offensive abilities

  • He may be one of the best direct modern attackers in Europe ✔
  • He adds decent pace to his game due to a low center of gravity ✔
  • A very skilled player to take the ball and run beyond the defenders ✔
  • Most of his goals come from simple tap-ins ✔
  • He finds himself in the perfect position in the box ✔
  • An aerial threat especially on set plays ✔
  • Defenders find it difficult to man-mark him ✔
  • Easily sneaks in to score a goal ✔
  • He could easily end up as West Ham’s top goal scorer this season ✔
  • Can even compete for the Premier League Golden Boot ✔
West Ham’s striker conundrum

West Ham has had so many strikers since gaining promotion but no one has really established them as the first choice No.9 for the club. Players such as Carlton Cole, Andy Carroll, Diafra Sakho, Enner Valencia, Maiga, Jonathan Calleri, Andre Ayew and Ashley Fletcher have all tried but no one has been first choice for every single game. Frankly, none of the players were even ready to be first choice.

But now the arrival of Chicharito may have eliminated that problem for at least 3 seasons. He is the complete striker that West Ham need in their squad this season.

And what a fitting way for Hernandez to begin the Premier League campaign, an away game at the Old Trafford, the Theatre of Dreams against his former club Manchester United. He will receive a warm reception as he marks off his second stint in England.

Wishing him all the best for his future!!!
