As the 2017/18 Champions League group stages were confirmed on the 24th of August 2017, the event was a memorable one for a few players who won individual accolades for their performances in last season's Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo

2016/17 Men's Player of the Year

Forward of the season

There wasn't any doubt that Ronaldo would win this award. He was by far the best player in Real Madrid's Champions League success last season. He won the award ahead of his professional rival Lionel Messi and goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon.

He was also the best forward player in Europe without any doubt which was seen in the Champions League final when he scored 2 goals to beat Juventus.

His CL record last season reads 12 appearances, playing an even 1200 minutes, scoring an impressive 12 goals and assisting 6 times.

Luka Modric

Midfielder of the season

Luka Modric was Real's silent creator in midfield last season. His main role was to stabilize the central midfield, pick out passes and create goals and he was the best at it.

Modric made 11 appearances, by playing a total of 983 minutes. He did not score a single goal and he just assisted once but his influence in midfield was key to Real's CL success last season.

Sergio Ramos

Defender of the season

Sergio Ramos won this award due to the leadership he showed for Real Madrid as well as the central defense. He is still the main man in Real's defense and is a deserving winner for this accolade.

He made 11 appearances, by managing 1001 minutes and only kept one clean sheet. He scored once and assisted 3 times but conceded a mammoth 14 goals. But Real's title success has won him the defender of the season.

Gianluigi Buffon

Goalkeeper of the season

Gianluigi Buffon's dream of winning the CL still remains but he was crowned as the best goalkeeper in Europe last season. He is still going strong at 39 and has one final season left to win him that precious Champions League title.
