The 2017 German Supercup final is about to kick-off in less than 2 hours. The fixture once again sees the fierce rivalry between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich emerge, the first one this season.

Bayern were run away winners of the Bundesliga and Dortmund clinched the DFB Pokal last season. Both teams could be equally be disappointed missing out on each other’s triumphs last season and would want to go one better by winning the first domestic trophy this season.

Last season, when the two squared off in the Supercup final, it was Bayern Munich who clinched the trophy with a 0-2 victory.

Head-to-Head Fixtures

Played: 42
Dortmund Wins: 15
Bayern Wins: 20

Draws: 7

Dortmund Losses: 20
Bayern Losses: 15

Bayern slightly have the edge and are continuing to find ways to overcome their rivals every time they feature against the other. But currently, both teams are evenly matched and do not want to come up as second best at the end of the night.

Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund has added well to their squad this transfer window, especially in certain positions they struggled with last season. But, they have a number of injury concerns in many positions.

Key players such as Schmelzer, Guerreiro, Weigl, Schurrle and Reus are all set to miss out. The concern would be at left back with both their left backs out for this game.

New signing Mahmoud Dahoud is expected to begin as their first choice central midfielder. Dortmund’s top scorer last season Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is still at the club and expected to start upfront.

Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich’s signings this season have all been blockbuster ones, strengthening in potions they need improvement in. But they have a much worse injury crisis in comparison to Dortmund.

They will be without Neuer, Boateng, Bernat, Alba, Thiago, and talisman Arjen Robben as well as new signing James Rodriguez. They face a similar problem at left back but have an added concern in attack.

Three new signings Niklas Sule, Sebastian Rudy and Corentin Tolisso all look set to deputize against Dortmund along with a start expected for their hitman Robert Lewandowski.

Predicted Formations

Prediction

Borussia Dortmund (3-1) Bayern Munich

On paper, Dortmund has a much stronger starting XI in comparison to the Bayern Lineup and they could come out with a 3-1 victory with Aubameyang to score a brace.

All the best to both teams.
