Matchday 1 - Saturday
The first 7 fixtures of Gameweek 2 concluded in exciting fashion right until late drama in injury time. With a total of 16 goals scored, there were 7 wins; four at home and three on the road.
Let's get right to all the results.
Swansea City (0-4) Manchester United
Scorer(s)
Bailly 45'
Lukaku 80'
Pogba 82'
Martial 84'
Manchester United put four goals past a Premier League side for the second week running beating Swansea City at the Liberty stadium. This win keeps them top of the table with an impressive +8 GD in just 2 games.
Both teams were evenly matched in the first half as either of the teams hit the crossbar early in the game. The breakthrough finally came in the 45th minute from an unlikely scorer; Eric Bailly scored his first PL goal through a simple tap in putting United ahead.
Goals didn't come until the last 10 minutes of the game as United ran riot, scoring 3 goals within four minutes without any reply. Romelu Lukaku started the goal rush after converting a Mkhitaryan pass to score his 3rd goal of the season.
After 2 minutes, a United attack saw Mkhitaryan play a superb through ball; his 4th assist of the season to Paul Pogba who obliged by scoring a smart chip over the keeper.
Substitute Anthony Martial scored a brilliant goal towards his right bottom corner to give United a dominant away win.
United are easily looking like the team to beat this season and are gunning for the Premier League title. Swansea played one of the big boys and were brushed aside, but now need to use the Sigurdsson money well to bring in good signings to have a chance for survival
Stoke City (1-0) Arsenal
Scorer(s)
Jese 47'
Jese 47'
Arsenal's nemesis on the road Stoke City have struck again by beating the Gunners to win their first game of the season. The crucial winner was scored by Jese Rodriguez, Stoke's new signing from PSG in his Premier League debut. This performance showed that he was the perfect player for the PL.
Stoke were fantastic for the entire night, their keeper and defenders kept the Arsenal attack at Bay, substitutes did their job well and the attack scored the all important goal.
After last week's game, Arsenal were looking weak defensively and strong offensively. This time around, they were looking weak both offensively and defensively. They need to do some serious thinking and be mentally prepared before their next fixture against Liverpool.
Southampton (3-2) West Ham United
Scorer(s)
Gabbiadini 11'
Tadic (P) 38'
Chicharito 45' 74'
Austin (P) 90+3'
Red Card(s)
Arnautovic 33'
A thrilling contest at St. Mary's saw Southampton win a last minute penalty to win their first game of the season against 10 man West Ham United.
After a goal drought of nearly six home games, Southampton finally scored after Manolo Gabbiadini scored their first goal of the season.
West Ham player Marco Arnautovic received a straight red after elbowing Jack Stephens and reacted stupidly before leaving the pitch.
Southampton were soon awarded a penalty which was converted by Dusan Tadic.
However before half time, Chicharito poached in to score a rebound from the keeper and scored a similar goal in the second half to draw 10 man West Ham level.
But Southampton had the last laugh as Zabaleta's foul handed a late penalty which was converted by Charlie Austin to ensure that they took away all 3 points.
West Ham are now bottom of the league, losing 2 consecutive games and need to rethink their approach come next week.
Liverpool (1-0) Crystal Palace
Scorer(s)
Mane 73'
Liverpool edged to their first win of the season as Sadio Mane scored the only goal of the game, enough to beat Crystal Palace.
Though offensively, this performance wasn't dominant enough the important thing is that they managed to win three points. A clean sheet will further show encouragement for their defense.
For Palace, it's now 2 defeats in a row although this one wasn't a heavy one like last week. They now need to find ways to create and score goals.
Bournemouth (0-2) Watford
Scorer(s)
Richarlison 73'
Capoue 86'
Bournemouth surprisingly lost their 2nd game in a row after Watford won their first game of the season with a 2 goal victory.
It was goalless until the 73rd minute until Watford's new signing Richarlison opened his account for the Hornets after somehow converting a cross from Andre Gray.
Richarlison was later substituted for Etienne Capoue who later announced his return by scoring a stunning long range effort to hand Watford their first win after seven successive away PL defeats.
Bournemouth need to gather themselves and prepare for next week after remaining without a point in the PL.
Leicester (2-0) Brighton
Scorer(s)
Okazaki 1'
Maguire 54'
Leicester have seemed to put last week's dramatic fixture against Arsenal aside after dominating Newly promoted Brighton at the King Power Stadium.
Brighton's defense couldn't remain stable for the 1st minute of the game after Shinji Okazaki gave Leicester the lead from the centre of the box.
New signing Harry Maguire scored his first goal of the season after heading home a cross from Mahrez; his second assist of the game.
Brighton look like an armature side who belong in the Championship after this performance and won't remain in the PL if they keep performing this way.
Burnley (0-1) West Brom
Scorer(s)
Robson-Kanu 71'
Red Card(s)
Robson-Kanu 83'
Burnley couldn't carry their impressive form from last week as they lost at home against a solid West Brom side who won their second game with a successive 0-1 result.
The goal was scored by Hal Robson-Kanu who came on as a substitute and scored in 8 minutes by making a direct run towards the goal and scoring in the lower bottom corner.
His joy was short lived as he received a red card in the 83rd minute after making two fouls within a minute, the second a dangerous offense. But West Brom's solid defense was able to hold off Burnley's attack as they couldn't repeat last week's result.
