Report:
Well,
it has happened!
Ex-Man United captain Wayne Rooney has left to re-join Everton
after 13 long years.
They mean business this transfer window marking Rooney
as their sixth major summer signing this window. At 31, this would be Wayne’s
best chance of making the England National Squad for the 2018 World Cup by
getting necessary game time. Despite taking a huge pay cut, Wayne will
reportedly earn around £150,000
per week making him the club’s top earner.
Disappointed
Man United fans who have seen Wayne develop as a young 18 year old into Europe’s
most feared striker may not have taken the news well. It’s disheartening to
lose your top goal scorer as well as the club’s leader, but it’s time to move
on and prepare for life after Wayne.
The
Everton-Manchester United transfer relationship:
Transfer dealings between both
clubs have been good and have improved. United first sold Morgan Schneiderlin
in Jan 2017, now Wayne Rooney……..Oh! And not to forget Manchester United’s
newest arrival from Everton, Romelu Lukaku!
Wayne
was currently valued at £10
Million but United decided to waive off the transfer fee allowing him to join
on a free transfer. Thus it prompted Everton to finalize and make the sale of
Lukaku to Man United. Both deals may end up being a win-win situation for both
teams.

Rooney’s Man United strike partners:
Wayne has been a part of many legendary striker partnerships in Europe fearful
to any opposition.
Rooney and Ronaldo:
Rooney
and Cristiano Ronaldo, this partnership was the most successful one in Premier
League history. It was Ronaldo’s pace and Rooney’s vision which made the
partnership a major hit among fans. They won back-to-back-to-back PL titles from
2006-2009 and a 2008 Champions League title for good measure.
From
2006-2009, Wayne also developed a direct No.10-No.9 partnership with Argentine
striker Carlos Tevez. This partnership turned out as another success showing
the combination of brilliant passing and lethal finishing.
After
Ronaldo and Tevez’ departure, Wayne frequently began combining with Man United
forward Dimitiar Berbatov, arguably the greatest No.9 at the top of his game at
that time. Their partnership helped United clinch the PL title in the 2011-12
season with Berbatov being crowned joint top goal scorer and made the CL final.
Since
2011, Rooney had also formed a vital striker partnership with Javier ‘Chicharito’
Hernandez. This partnership scored vital match winning goals helping Man United
clinch their 19th Premier League title in 2011-12. They played
together for 4 whole seasons and also clinched their record 20th PL
title in 2012-13.
Berbatov
departed the club in 2012, as Man United had already signed top quality, enter Robin
Van Persie. Both players had a fantastic campaigns the previous year; Van
Persie finished as top goal scorer in the PL and was crowned PFA Player of the
Year, Wayne finished runner-up to Van Persie in the race for the golden boot. Playing
together in attack, they didn’t disappoint. Van Persie’s lethal finishing and
Wayne cleverness to pick the right pass saw Man United cruise to their 20th
Premier League crown. Both players in their prime became the most successful PL
partnership in the history of the club. The partnership worked for 3 whole
seasons.
Enter
Zlatan! Rooney and Zlatan played together last season showing their class in
front of goal. The veteran partnership was a dream that every United fan would
have wanted and they got their wish. Come the start of this season, it’s sad
that neither of them are a part of the squad.
Wayne
has also featured with legendary striker Ruud Van Nistelrooy for around 2
seasons in the Premier League. Wayne featured with French striker Louis Saha
for 4 seasons. Saha, a former Evertonian has played with them from 2008-2012.
Wayne
is a born leader; this is what prompted him to get the captain’s armband for
United as well as the England National team. For the upcoming season, Everton
may have rotational captains with Jagielka and Rooney. With or without the
armband, Everton will hugely benefit having Rooney in their attack. Off the
pitch, he will motivate both young and experienced players before, during as
well as after games. His leadership on the pitch is unquestionable.
Without
a doubt, Rooney may be one of the greatest No.10s to grace the Premier League.
His creative play in midfield is his best quality. Another amazing quality that
Wayne possesses is his long range passing ability which may only be second best
to Paul Scholes. He is another valuable option to have for direct free kicks,
having that ability to strike the wonder goal!
A new-look Everton attack:
Manager Ronald Koeman has made interesting yet effective signings this transfer
window in both attack and defense. But will Wayne get regular game time with
Everton is still unknown with Davy Klaassen another potential option.. The new dynamic
and explosive attack that Everton have would be thrilling for Rooney making it
another new challenge in his glorious career. He may find his peak form level playing
with this new and improving Everton squad.
A potential attack for Everton next season!
Last season struggles:
Wayne struggled a lot with Man United over game time, especially registering
very few starts in the Premier League. He was left out of the Starting XI for
the League Cup final failing to even make a substitute appearance. He was even
left out of the Starting line-up for the Europa League final. These two games
were by far the most important games of the club’s season last year and Rooney,
their record goal scorer, their captain was a bit part player.
Will Wayne be back:
This
may not be Wayne’s last stint with Manchester United. He could still return
back one last time in the future before hanging up his boots which could take another
4 years. United fans love him, they adore him, and they respect him and would
want to see him play in a Man United shirt once again. They will cheer for him
whenever he plays against United…….he is and always will be a true legend!
Instead of signing for the MLS or the Chinese Super League, Wayne made the right move to stay in the Premier League with Everton. He had said that Everton would be the only PL club he’d leave Man United for, and putting his career ahead of money shows his true professionalism.
All
the best to Wayne and his future with new club Everton!!!
