5th Place: Liverpool

After a slow start to their 2017/18 Premier League campaign, Liverpool is finally establishing themselves as worthy challengers for the title this season.

Liverpool by far has the quickest attacking unit in the league, capable of destroying any side they face. But they also have a woeful defensive unit who concede silly goals because of individual errors.

Heading into their mouthwatering clash against rivals Manchester United in GW 8, Liverpool had dropped to 7th on 14 points after their draw against Newcastle United.

Heading into the international break, Liverpool concluded with back-to-back wins and their record now reads [5 Wins, 2 Defeats & 4 Draws] and still unbeaten at home.

GW 8

Liverpool played out a goalless yet entertaining draw against rivals Manchester United for a second season running.

With their free-flowing attack, Liverpool created numerous chances throughout the game with Joel Matip, Dejan Lovren, Emre Can & Mohamed Salah all coming close.
United goalkeeper David De Gea made excellent saves through the game to keep Liverpool's attack at bay. This was Liverpool's third draw in their last 4 matches which kept them 7th in the table.

GW 9

Liverpool suffered their second loss of the season on the road as Tottenham thrashed them 4-1. This result dropped them into 9th place with 13 points.

Dejan Lovren was responsible for a major misjudgment which caused a horrible error to gift Harry Kane the opener. They couldn't contain Tottenham's counter-attack which was profited by Son Heung-Min.

Mohamed Salah scored his 5th goal of the season to pull one back but that wasn't enough as Dele Alli and Harry Kane struck to complete Liverpool's demolition.

GW 10

Liverpool got back to winning ways to beat Huddersfield Town 3-0 at home as Jurgen Klopp faced his friend David Wargner for the first time in the PL. This was Liverpool's first win in 4 games this season.

Mohamed Salah failed to give Liverpool the lead after his penalty was saved by Jonas Lossl. But, just after half-time, Daniel Sturridge scored his second goal of the season to hand Liverpool the lead.

Roberto Firmino scored a close-range header from a corner before Georginio Wijnaldum fired a shot into the top corner. This result took Liverpool back into 6th place on 16 points.

GW 11

Before the international break arrived, Liverpool made it consecutive wins for only the second time this season after beating West Ham United 1-4, keeping them in 6th place.

Mohamed Salah was their star-performer who notched up a brace; the first coming after a swift counter-attack as Sadio Mane set him up.

Minutes later, Joel Matip doubled Liverpool's advantage with a close-range shot from a corner.

Despite West Ham pulling one back through Manuel Lanzini, from the restart, Liverpool's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored his first goal for his new club.

Salah scored his 2nd after Mane once again set up him to take his PL season tally to 7. This meant that Liverpool moved 3 points behind fourth-placed Chelsea and 12 points behind leaders Manchester City.

Liverpool welcome Southampton this coming Saturday as they look to make it 3 PL wins in a row for the first time this season.

Prediction:
Liverpool (2-0) Southampton
