4th Place: Chelsea

Champions Chelsea has had a topsy-turvy start to their title defense this season.

Until GW 8, they had already suffered two defeats at home; the shock opening day defeat to Burnley and most recently the defeat against a resilient Manchester City side, leaving them 4th in the table on 13 points from 7 fixtures.

In the four GW's that approached began with a first away defeat of the season against bottom side Crystal Palace, but concluded with 3 consecutive wins. Their record now reads [7 Wins, 3 Losses & 1 Draw]. Let's see how those results shaped up.

GW 8

Chelsea suffered back-to-back defeats as they were stunned by a rejuvenated Crystal Palace side; getting a 2-1 win after ending a run of seven successive defeats without scoring.

Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta saw the ball deflect off of him only on the wrong side of the net but Chelsea was level seven minutes later, courtesy of a Tiemoue Bakayoko header.

Wilfried Zaha scored just before half-time which was enough for the win.

Cesc Fabregas had a glorious chance to make it 2-2 but saw his strike clip the crossbar. This defeat kept Chelsea 4th in the table on 13 points.

GW 9

After two successive defeats, the Champions got back to winning ways earning a thrilling 4-2 comeback win at home to Watford. This victory brought Chelsea back to 4th on 16 points; 4 points behind third-placed Tottenham.

Pedro scored a superb strike in the 12th minute to hand Chelsea the lead. But Chelsea conceded 2 goals; one in each half through Abdoulaye Doucoure & Roberto Pereyra.

Substitute Michy Batshuayi was the difference maker introduced on 61 minutes who first equalized with a superb header.

Chelsea took the lead for a second time on the night through Cesar Azpilicueta's header; his first of the season before Batshuayi scored again in stoppage to hand Chelsea their first home win in three PL games.

GW 10

Chelsea earned a vital 0-1 win away at Bournemouth to secure back-to-back wins in the PL. This win brought them to a point of 3rd placed Tottenham.

Alvaro Morata missed a glorious chance to hand Chelsea the advantage early on after he fluffed his shot wide of goalkeeper Asmir Begovic.

Eden Hazard scored his first PL goal of the season to secure this vital away victory finishing inside the near post.

GW11

Heading into the international break; Chelsea concluded with a 1-0 victory at home against former manager Jose Mourinho's Manchester United to secure their 3rd consecutive victory of the season.

Chelsea's dominant performance saw them create numerous chances throughout the game. Phil Jones turned the ball inside his own net only to be ruled out after Tiemoue Bakayoko had a handful of chances.

Alvaro Morata was the difference maker; latching onto
Azpilicueta's perfect cross to head the ball, scoring his 7th goal of the season.

Chelsea's resilient defensive unit kept out all the attack that was thrown at them late on in the game to move them within one point of 2nd & 3rd place; and 9 points behind leaders Man City.

Chelsea travels to face West Brom this Saturday with an aim to secure their 4th consecutive win of the season.
