The UEFA Champions League returned for a Second week in stunning fashion as the 16 teams from Groups E to H managed to score 23 goals as 7 teams managed to pick up wins. Out of them 4 were at home and 3 away. Let's get straight to the reviews.
Group H
Fixture 1
Cristiano Ronaldo marked his 150th European game with a brace as Real Madrid got a convincing 1-3 victory against Borussia Dortmund. This result takes Real top of Group H with 6 points, and Dortmund are still without a point in 3rd.
The scoring was opened by Gareth Bale in the 18th minute scoring a superb first time volley from his left foot to hand Real the lead.
In the second half, Ronaldo broke through the Dortmund defense and struck his first and Real's second on the night, with a left footed shot to the bottom left corner. He got his second in the 79th minute scoring a brilliant strike with his right foot into the bottom right corner.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a consolation goal in the 54th minute via Gonzalo Castro's cross but that wasn't enough as Dortmund suffered their first defeat at home to Real.
Fixture 2
Harry Kane scored his first ever European hat-trick; a perfect left foot, right food and headed finish as Tottenham made it 2 consecutive CL wins in their 0-3 win over APOEL. Kane is now the top scorer in the group stages this season with 5 goals in his last 2 games.
This also marks Tottenham's first clean sheet of the season. They have moved to 2nd, level on points with leaders Real Madrid in Group H as APOEL remain rock bottom.
He broke the deadlock in the 39th minute, after Toby Alderweireld played in a delicious through ball, scoring with his left foot. His second came in the 62nd minute, after he fired a right footed shot into the bottom left corner. The hat-trick goal arrived 5 minutes later, when Kane headed in Kieran Trippier's cross to leave with the match ball.
Group G
Fixture 3
After a disappointing opening day loss, Portuguese side FC Porto inflicted a shock home defeat to the French side AS Monaco, winning 0-3 with a superb performance from Porto front man Vincent Aboubakar.
He shored his first goals of the season, one in either half as Porto played brilliant counter attacking football as they got the early advantage in the game. Substitute Miguel Layun made it 0-3 late on in the game.
This was AS Monaco's biggest ever CL home defeat and are now win less after 2 games sit in 3rd on 1 point. Porto have moved into 2nd place in Group G on 3 points.
Fixture 4
Turkish side Besiktas made it 2 wins out of 2 as they put in a dominant performance at home against German side RB Leipzig. This has extended Besiktas unbeaten European home record to 10 home games.
Ryan Babel scored his 2nd CL goal this season by giving Besiktas the lead through his low strike. Their lead was doubled by Talisca who also got his 2nd goal of the season heading home Ricardo Quaresma's super cross.
This has taken Besiktas top of Group G on 6 points. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig's first ever away European game didn't go as per plan and are now bottom of the group on 1 point.
Group F
Fixture 5
Manchester City maintained their hundred percent record in the CL Group Stages this season by sealing off a comfortable 2-0 victory at Home to Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.
With a goal less first half, midfielder Kevin De Bruyne broke the deadlock in the 48th minute by scoring a beautiful curling shot from distance. Sergio Aguero saw his 72nd minute penalty saved by Andriy Paytov. Raheem Sterling scored a late goal to seal the win.
This result keeps City top of Group F on 6 points and Shakhtar remain in 2nd place, level on 3 points with Napoli.
Fixture 6
Italian side SSC Napoli managed to pick up their first win in the CL this season by beating Dutch side Feyenoord at home 3-1. This was also Napoli's 8th home victory in a row.
Lorenzo Insigne, Dries Mertens & Jose Callejon were among the scorers for Napoli who were all brilliant on the night. Feyenoord midfielder Sofyan Amrabat scored a late consolation goal.
This victory has taken Napoli to 3rd in the table, level on points with Shakhtar Donetsk. For Feyenoord, it's 2 losses in a row, taking them to bottom of Group H.
Fixture 7
The star performer on the night was Sevilla front-man Wissam Ben Yedder who scored a brilliant hat-trick, two goals in the first half and a late second half penalty. He has now moved onto 4 goals in the Group Stages this season, level with Cristiano Ronaldo & one behind leader Harry Kane, not bad company at all.
Fixture 8
Liverpool & Spartak Moskva both got their second draws in the Group Stages in as many games, as the game finished 1-1. This result has kept Liverpool & Spartak level on 2 points in 2nd & 3rd respectively.
The hosts took the lead after Fernando scored a stunning free-kick which was later cancelled out by Phillipe Coutinho who scored his 2nd goal in as many games in all competitions, playing a neat one-two with Sadio Mane.
