Report:
The deal was confirmed on June 15th 2017. Everton had signed English goalkeeper Jordan Pickford from Sunderland on a five year contract for
a mammoth fee of £30 Million. This made him the most expensive British goalkeeper and 3rd on the all time list of the most expensive fees paid for a goalkeeper.
Jordan
has plenty of potential to become one of the best keepers in the Premier League. He was one of the fewer stars in Sunderland’s ill fated campaign
last season and that’s the reason Everton made a prompt decision to snap him
up. He has been on the radar of a number of English clubs in the Premier League
including Everton’s bitter rivals Liverpool but no official bid was ever made.
Everton believe in the talent that this young lad possesses and know how far he
can go.
2016/17
Career Statistics:
- Sunderland’s first choice keeper in the PL last season
- Notches up 29 appearances
- Kept only 4 clean sheets with a defensive back line
- Gained recognition with his stunning quality saves
Pickford was among the standout performers in the Premier League last season, notably he was also a nominee for the PFA Young Player of the Year award. He can make crucial yet stunning saves in a game and has brilliant reflexes. An added ability is being alert in lining his defenders in the right positions during set plays. With the role as Everton's first choice keeper already secured, the same cannot be said for the national team. He is still working hard to become England’s new number 1 and can attain it by this year if he performs well.
Bad
News:
None
for him, he will fit in well with the side. The only problem arises
for the current Everton goalkeepers; Robles and Stekelenburg
would find it difficult to get game time in the league and one of them may leave
this window, with Joel Robles looking the most likely casualty..
Conclusion:
A
mammoth transfer fee indeed, but he will be worth every penny. In the coming
years, transfer fees for goalkeepers will surpass the amount paid for Pickford
but he is a great addition for Everton.
All the best to him and his future with
his club!!!
Jordon Pickford- Welcome to Everton
