UEFA Champions League 2017/18: Group G

Group G so far....

Group G can be considered as the "Group of the Underdogs" this season as all the four teams are quite evenly matched and looking for a place into the Knockout stages.

Turkish club Besiktas currently lead the way and can seal a place into the last 16 if they secure a win tonight. The group also includes former champions Portuguese club FC Porto who sit in second.

German club RB Leipzig are the newcomers this season who find themselves in 3rd with the biggest shock coming for Ligue 1 champions and last season's semi-finalists AS Monaco who sit bottom.

Besiktas & AS Monaco

Besiktas couldn't have asked for a better return to the UCL as they find themselves leading Group G on 10 points and are unbeaten this season.

AS Monaco's group stage games have been a disaster this season. They sit rock bottom after failing to win in all of their four games but have a chance to qualify if they win their final two games and results elsewhere go in their favor.

Matchday 3

Besikats came from behind to earn a memorable victory at Monaco to register their 3rd successive win in Group G.

Their 2nd defeat of the season leaves Monaco hanging bottom of Group G on one point.

Radamel Falcao handed Monaco an early advantage on the 30th minute. But Besiktas began their comeback with Cenk Tosun leading the way who scored in each half to ensure Besiktas' hundred percent record.

Matchday 4

Besiktas and Monaco played out a well-fought draw in their reverse fixture to further stretch Besiktas' unbeaten run in the Group Stages to four games and are unbeaten in their last 11 Home games.

Monaco took the surprise lead on the stroke of half-time through Rony Lopes only for Cenk Tosun to equalize from the penalty spot to score his 3rd goal against Monaco in two games this season.

Besiktas now sit on 10 points and can confirm qualification tonight with Monaco in a win or elimination situation.
RB Leipzig & FC Porto

RB Leipzig are among the newcomers to feature in this season's UCL and currently sit 3rd in the table.

FC Porto are also fiercely contesting to qualify for the knockout phases as they find themselves in 2nd place, two point clear of 3rd placed Leipzig.

Matchday 3

RB Leipzig and FC Porto scored five first half goals as the home won 3-2 to earn their first ever UCL victory, also moving them above Porto in 2nd place.

The hosts took the lead through captain Willi Orban which was soon equalized by Vincent Aboubakar.

Leipzig broke through after the half-hour mark with Emil Forsberg giving the lead which was soon doubled through Jean-Kevin Augustin. Porto pulled one back through Ivan Marcano but it wasn't enough as Leipzig held a firm defense for the win.

Matchday 4

FC Porto returned to winning ways once again as they triumphed over RB Leipzig putting three past the German side to move 2nd in Group G.

Porto took an early lead in the 13th minute through Hector Herrera, taking it into half-time. Soon in the 2nd half, Leipzig equalized through striker Timo Werner.
After the hour-mark, Danilo Pereira handed Porto the lead for the second time in the game which was later sealed late into injury time by Maxi Pereira.
Besiktas have a crunch tie upcoming tonight against FC Porto and can confirm qualification with a victory.

Monaco and Leipzig equally have a glorious chance towards qualification to the Round of 16 and only a victory would do for either side.
