Gameweek 5
Matchday 3 (Sunday)
Gameweek 5 has concluded as teams just managed to score 21 goals across 10 fixtures with just 5 teams managing to get 3 points with just 3 coming at home.
9 teams managed to pick up clean sheets which will be a boost for their defenses. The seven sides namely; Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Man City, Man United & Tottenham, just 2 teams managed to pick up wins after their midweek European fixtures. Let's get right into Sunday's action.
Fixture 1
London rivals Chelsea and Arsenal shared an exciting 0-0 draw at Stamford bridge as Chelsea defender David Luiz was shown a straight red card late on.
The Champions stay 3rd on 10 points with Arsenal moving into 12th. This result also ended Arsenal's 5-match losing streak at Stamford Bridge.
Both sides had big chances in the first half, first by Pedro and then Aaron Ramsey hitting the post. In the 2nd half, both sides brought on their talismans Alexis Sanchez and Eden Hazard but neither could find a breakthrough.
Arsenal defender Skhodran Mustafi saw his headed effort in the back of the net but only to be ruled out off-side by the linesman.
With the game coming to an end, David Luiz received a straight red card for a terrible high footed tackle on Sead Kolasinac despite already being booked in the game but with less time remaining Arsenal couldn't make the man advantage count.
Fixture 2
Man United moved into 2nd, joint top on 10 points after their dominant 4-0 display against Everton on Wayne Rooney's return to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils took the lead early in the 4th minute after Antonio Valencia scored a spectacular half volley to rifle United ahead on the night.
After performance levels from either sides deteriorated, the most notable occurrence came on the 82nd minute when Wayne Rooney received a standing ovation from the Old Trafford faithful after he was substituted for Kevin Mirallas.
United scored a minute later, Romelu Lukaku laid-off the ball to Henrikh Mkhitaryan who scored his first goal of the season.
Lukaku then scored a close range effort on his return against Everton, 6 minutes later, his 5th PL goal of the season. Substitute Anthony Martial won a late penalty in stoppage time which he converted to score United's 4th on the night & his 3rd PL goal.
