⚽ **TRANSFERS: English Premier League 2017/18** ⚽
Player: Diego Costa
Age: 28 years
Position: Centre Forward
To: Atletico de Madrid
From: Chelsea
Transfer Fee: 57 Million
The Diego Costa saga with Chelsea has finally found a fitting end after confirmation that Spanish side Atletico Madrid have finally struck a £57 Million deal to re-sign with his former side with a medical due this week. But his unveiling as an Atletico player will happen on 1st Jan 2018 when the club's transfer ban if lifted.
Costa now returns back to his old stomping ground, a 2-time PL winner with Chelsea in 2015 & 2017 and has gained high acclaim as one the most lethal strikers ever to grace the PL. Atletico have also managed to sign him for a relatively decent transfer fee in this competitive rising market.
Altogether, Costa has managed to make 120 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 58 goals and registering 24 assists.
He was at his very best in the 2014-15 season under former manager Jose Mourinho, managing to make 26 appearances, scoring 20 goals, leading Chelsea to the PL title.
Last season under manager Antonio Conte, initially the pair began working well together, as Costa managed to make 35 PL appearances, scoring 20 times, winning the PL for a second time.
But mid-season, there were rumors regarding a training ground bust up between manager and player and thereafter, relations between the pair began taking a sour turn. His final appearance and goal for the club came in the 2017 FA Cup final against Arsenal and that's all she wrote.
There were further rumors that the manager sent him a text stating that he wasn't a part of the Chelsea first team for the 2017-18 season. He didn't make a single pre season appearance nor was he included in the squad for any competitive competitions this season. The arrival of Alvaro Morata all but confirmed his departure.
Now with Atletico, he returns as a player focused and ready to once again star for a club he left 3 seasons ago. He will look to add to his 134 appearances and 64 goals for the club and will once again want to assert his dominance in Europe.
There is that odd occurrence if Chelsea and Atletico meet in the further stages of the Champions League. The move works well for both teams as Atletico once again have a dominant No.9 they can rely on every week. All the best to him.
Diego Costa's arrival to Atletico in January has surely boosted their chances for the Champions League providing them their long awaited arrival of a lethal No.9
