Arsenal victorious in the 51st North London derby

Manchester City show their class at Leicester

Upon its return from the international break, the Premier League has delivered once again.  GW 12 action has seen all the teams score 32 goals. 

The most significant result was Arsenal's victory against bitter rivals Tottenham in the 51st North London derby.

Manchester United, Chelsea and Bournemouth were the three teams to score 4 goals. The latter two clubs along with Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City, Burnley & Watford managed to keep clean sheets.

Arsenal,  Burnley, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Watford and Man United all registered home victories with Chelsea and Man City winning away from home. Tottenham was the only top six side who failed to win last GW.

Arsenal V Tottenham


Arsenal got a well-earned 2-0 victory after classing their North London rivals Tottenham to make it 6 straight home victories of the season. This was also Arsenal's first derby victory in seven matches.

Mesut Ozil curled a free-kick in the 36th minute which was headed in by Shkodran Mustafi to hand Arsenal the lead.


Their lead was doubled just five minutes later as Alexandre Lacazette's shot fell into the path of Alexis Sanchez who controlled and finished off brilliantly to register his 2nd PL goal of the season. 


This win moved Arsenal within a point of their rivals as Tottenham suffered back-to-back away defeats this season against a top six side.

West Brom V Chelsea


Chelsea made it 4 consecutive victories in the league with a 0-4 victory over West Bromwich Albion with Eden Hazard scoring a brace.

After Salomon Rondon's goal was ruled off-side, Alvaro Morata scored the opener in the 17th minute after Hazard's shot was saved by Ben Foster, falling to Morata to register his 8th PL goal of the season.

Six minutes later, Morata's delightful flick reached Hazard who rounded off Foster to score his first on the night.

Cesc Fabregas was on hand to assist Chelsea's next two goals; the first via a free-kick which was finished by Marcos Alonso who scored his 3rd goal of the season.

Fabregas later played in Hazard in the second half who made it 4-0 which also marked Fabregas' 110th assist in his PL career.


Chelsea's win has moved them a place above Spurs in third. This proved to be the last game for West Brom manager Tony Pulis who was sacked two days later as his now former club suffered their 5th loss in a row, dropping into 17th.

Leicester City V Manchester City


PL leaders Manchester City made it an astonishing ten league victories in a row as they put in a fine performance against Leicester City to beat them 2-0.

With a resilient Leicester defense standing strong, City's attacking prowesses finally paid off as a fine one-touch move fell to David Silva who registered his 8th assist of the season, teeing up Gabriel Jesus for a simple tap-in.


A brilliant counter-attack from a Leicester City corner handed City a 2-0 lead as Kevin De Bruyne thrashed a brilliant long-range shot past keeper Kasper Schmeichel.

This win took City 9 points clear of their closest competitors and rivals United in second while Leicester remained in 12th, suffering their first defeat under new manager Claude Puel. 


Manchester United made it six home victories in a row as they earned a comeback 4-1 victory over Newcastle United.



Dwight Gale became the first player to score against the Red Devils at home this season, putting the Magpies ahead on 14 minutes.

The returning Paul Pogba's cross was perfectly headed in by Anthony Martial for the equalizer in the 37th minute before Chris Smalling headed Ashley Young's cross in first-half stoppage time to give United the lead.


In the second half, Pogba tapped in Marcus Rashford's knockdown to score on his return. Romelu Lukaku took his time and slammed home United's fourth and his 8th goal of the season.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic also returned from his near career ending injury to a warm reception from the Home fans. United maintained second place in the table while Newcastle remained in 11th.

Bournemouth V Huddersfield Town



AFC Bournemouth made it back-to-back wins for only the second time this season with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Huddersfield Town with Callum Wilson scoring a hat-trick on his return.


On his first home start in the league, Wilson headed in his first on the night from a Jordon Ibe corner before doubling it on 31 minutes from Andrew Surman's free-kick.

The home side went down to 10-men just before halftime after Simon Francis was shown a second yellow card for a foul on Rajiv van La Parra.


But Huddersfield failed to make the man advantage count after Harry Arter added a brilliant third on 70 minutes. Wilson completed his hat-trick combining with Josuha King to cap-off a fine home win.

Bournemouth has moved into 13th just two points behind their opponents who sit in 11th place. 

Liverpool V Southampton


Liverpool made it 3 PL wins in a row with a comfortable 3-0 win over Southampton to extend their unbeaten home run this season. Liverpool is in 5th place with Southampton dropping into 14th.



Mohamed Salah scored a brace to take him top of the PL scoring charts this season; first coming on 32 minutes when a curled a brilliant shot from the edge of the box.

Salah latched onto Phillipe Coutinho's through ball to make it 2-0 on the night after which Coutinho converted Robert Firmino's rebounded effort off keeper Fraser Forster to complete the scoring.

Burnley V Swansea City


Burnley achieved a remarkable feat of making it three victories in a row in the league with their first ever win over Swansea City, beating them 2-0.

Former Swansea midfielder Jack Cork gave the home side the lead on 29 minutes, heading in a fine header from Robbie Brady's cross.

They made it 2-0 just before half-time as Jeff Hendrick put in Ashley Barnes who drilled in from distance for his first of the season.

Burnley remarkably still sits in 7th  as Swansea are two points from safety in 19th after their fourth consecutive defeat.

Crystal Palace V Everton


Everton twice came from behind to register a 2-2 draw against a rejuvenated Crystal Palace side who are now unbeaten in their last three home games.

James McArthur handed the Eagles a perfect start within the first minute which lasted only 5 minutes as Oumar Niasse was fouled in the box which looked a clear simulation, but the resulting penalty was converted by Leighton Baines, scoring his 2nd penalty in two games.

Wilfried Zaha restored Palace's lead tucking home Joel Ward's pinpoint cross. But, Palace handed Everton an unfortunate life-line as keeper Julian Speroni committed an error which was finished off by Oumar Niasse.


It felt like two points lost than a point gained by both sides who had chances to win it but spurned it by Cristian Benteke & Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Palace remains rock bottom with Everton dropping down to 16th.

Watford V West Ham United


New West Ham United manager David Moyes' first match in charge ended in defeat with Watford getting a 2-0 victory at home to make it three home victories in a row.

Will Hughes scored his first ever PL goal with his first shot on the night, putting Watford ahead on 11 minutes.


With West Hame failing to put off crucial chances, Watford doubled their lead on the 64th minute through a devastating counter-attack finished off by Richarlison.

Watford now moves into 8th place with West Ham remain in the bottom three with nine points.

Brighton V Stoke City


Brighton & Hove Albion extend their unbeaten record to five matches in the PL as they came twice from behind to secure a 2-2 draw against Stoke City.

Stoke took the lead through Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting who brilliantly brought down Xherdan Shaqiri's 40-yard pass with a brilliantly controlled finish.
Brighton scored the equalizer through Pascal Gross on 44 minutes with credit going to Davy Propper who beat four players before crossing the ball.

Stoke took the lead once again in first-half stoppage time when Kurt Zouma headed in his first league goal for the club.
Jose Izquierdo fired a close-range shot on the hour mark to secure a vital point for the Seagulls extending their unbeaten home record to five games. The draw drops Stoke into 15th with Brighton also dropping a place into 9th.
